StarValue Research and Analysis: Yahoo Confirms Nora Aunor Likely to Expand Awareness and Interest for TV5

SSV wants to confirm our earlier contention that Superstar Nora Aunor can indeed increase awareness and interest for her mother network, the ultra-aggressive and new major player, TV5.

And since SuperStarValue values objectivity and hard data more than anything else for its pop media analysis, we decided to tap one of the latest features of online giant Yahoo! in measuring trends worldwide.

But what we what to focus on here is 'Philippine' result for our query that we're sure TV5 officials would find most welcome. Below is a short, comparative breakdown:

SSV Analysis: For the two weeks that Ms. Nora Aunor has been in the country, the searches tracked by Yahoo! for her came from many areas in the entire Philippine archipelago, with the top 10 regions listed, as shown immediately above. 


Comparatively, for the same period (Aug. 2-17), the searched tracked by Yahoo! for TV5 came from three regions; NCR, Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao.


What can we gather from the above data? A lot but let us just point out the obvious.


First, it indicates how extensive the awareness and interest still is for Ms Nora Aunor as far as the Filipinos from almost all regions in the country are concerned.


Second. That TV5's expansion goals can definitely benefit from the added areas that said awareness and interest for Ms. Aunor still resides. 


Third. TV5 is clearly headed to gain new audiences from new regions when it finally airs "Sa Ngalan ng Ina", the ground-breaking miniseries that made this grander-than-expected showbiz comeback possible for the Superstar.


Of course, challenges still lie ahead including the tough task of matching the high expectations of the critics, the fans and the general public. But these are welcome challenges for TV5, ate Guy and the rest of the "SNNI" team. 


What is clear however, as indicated by Yahoo! Clues, is that the current scenario is proving to be a win-win scenario for ate Guy and her new mother network, TV5.

IF Star Cinema succeeds in enticing only half as much audience as the television series, then the project will have proven to be a box-office mine for the film arm of ABS-CBN.

Of course, SSV would rather see the movie succeed commercially if only for the sake of the local film industry itself. But objectively speaking, SSV has its reservations. Poster. The best thing about the Tween Academy Class of 2012 poster is the concept and the font. But most of the pictures of the relatively all-upstart cast though are, objectively speaking, unflattering and uninspired.

Trailer. We first saw the full trailer of the "Tween Academy" movie in a cinema where we watched "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank." The audience was silent from beginning to end. On television, though, we found the same trailer to be more refreshing and quite appealing to younger audiences.

Promo Communication Design: The movie took an early promo release online and gathered the support of fans who are active in the various entertainment blogs and social-networking sites. Mall shows followed and reports say the new GMA teen stars are attracting large, noisy, excited crowds. These are all positive signs that should help strengthen the box-office potential of the movie.

But objectively speaking, we are seeing lapses in the promo communication design of the movie- some are just minor "missteps," but quite a few can be considered to be major oversights that may spell the difference when the movie finally shown. Of course, that's is merely our objective observation. You may or may not agree.

What are these major oversights? As the promo is still underway, we won't reveal our observations until the movie opens. That should give enough room for everyone to maintain and/or improve the current promo communication design as deemed fit by the producers, who are afterall the final stakeholders in this movie.

Superstar: "It Is Worth Supporting Nora Aunor. Mabuti Siyang Tao" - Film/TV Exec Joey Abacan

Mahirap makalapit sa Superstar. Katunayan, nang sa wakas ay nakabalik si Ms. Nora Aunor sa Pilipinas noong Martes nang madaling-araw, Aug. 2, ito lang ang litrato na nakuha ko sa airport.


Hindi rin napagbigyan ng mga taong kilala kong may access kay Ms. Aunor at sa pamunuan ng TV 5 (ang agresibong tv station na nag-offer ng konkretong proyekto kay ate Guy sa tulong ni Kuya Germs) ang kahilingan na makapasok sa press conference sa Shangrila kaya wala akong nai-publish na malinaw na litrato ng Superstar. Ganoon kahigpit ang mga tao sa paligid ni Ms. Nora Aunor ngayon, at batay sa 'magulong' litrato na nasa itaas, masasabing ang paghihigpit na ito ay para na rin sa kabutihan at seguridad ng nagbabalik na bituin na dinudumog pa rin ng mga tao hanggang ngayon.

Pero dahil ang focus naman ng blog na ito ay "star value analysis" at "pop media strategy", mas mahalaga sa research ko ang mga impormasyon tungkol sa kung ano ang mga susunod na hakbang at mabubuong mga proyekto ni Ms. Aunor sa pagkakataong ito na muli niyang pinasisigla ang kanyang karera. Kaya ang mga litrato niya mismo, kahit totoong mas interesante sana na mayroon, ay pwede na rin wala kung pahirapan talaga ang pagkuha lalo na't bago ang konsepto ng blog na ito para sa maraming tao sa lokal na industriya (pero karaniwan na sa Hollywood kung saan higit na "professionalized", "structured" at "systematic" ang takbo ng industriya).

Ang ganitong pagtaya ko sa takbo ng industriya ang dahilan na rin kung bakit hindi na ako nagtaka nang kahapon ay mabilis na kumalat at pinag-usapan sa internet ang susunod na larawan...





...ang Superstar kasama sina Mr. Jose Mari Abacan at Atty. Annette Gozon-Abrogar sa bakuran ng GMA Network. Suot ni Ms. Aunor ang jacket at hawak ang "fan sign" para sa pelikulang "Tween Academy Class of 2012" na produksyon ng GMA Films.

Bukod sa pagiging Vice President for Programming ng nasabing tv network, si Mr. Abacan ay producer rin ng GMA Films sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Atty. Gozon-Abrogar.

Ang unang reaksyon ko sa pagkakita sa litrato- Hindi flattering ang kuha ng photographer kay Ms. Aunor. Malayo sa mga lumabas na litrato niya sa presscon na ibinigay ng TV5. Sa mga kuha sa presscon na nakita ko rin online, 'grand dame' ang dating niya kumbaga samantalang sa unang litrato na inilabas ng PEP.PH, mukhang asiwa o napipilitan lang ang Superstar, among other things.

Bilang isang screenwriter, alam na alam ko na totoo ang isang gasgas na kasabihan, 'a picture speaks a thousand words.' Dadagdagan ko lang ng ganito - 

"While a picture does speak a thousand words, what these words will actually say will depend mainly on who is looking at the picture." 

Isa pang punto na pwedeng makuha sa pangyayaring ito ay --- "Kapag pangit ang larawan, natural lang na pangit din ang interpretasyon. Pero kapag maayos ang larawan, mahirap itong gawan ng pangit na interpretasyon."

Dahil dating nakatrabaho ko si Mr. Abacan (bilang producer ng ilang shows sa GMA 7 na pinagsulatan ko noon), nagpadala ako ng maituturing na "concerned text message" sa kanya tungkol sa "impact" ng dalawang (2) litrato niya (w/ Nora Aunor) na naka-publish at mainit na pinag-uusapan sa PEP.PH. Hindi na ako nagdalawang isip tutal magkakilala kami at hindi naman ako empleyado ng GMA 7 so "walang mawawala" sa akin, kumbaga.

Di nagtagal, tumawag si kuya Joey (Abacan) at ang bungad niya sa akin sa telepono- 'Ramon, ano ba
'yung pinadala mong text sa akin? Kasama ka na ba sa mga haters ko ngayon?' Tonong nagbibiro naman si kuya Joey kaya natawa na lang ako bago ko siya sinagot - "Hindi mo ako hater, kuya Joey. Concerned lang ako." "Hindi mo kasi alam ang buong kwento, Ramon", sagot ni Mr. Abacan.

At nagtuluy-tuloy na ang kwentuhan namin. Sa kabila ng 'kontrobersya', magaan ang "mood" ng usapan at may mga sinabi siya sa amin na gusto rin daw niyang malaman ng publiko, lalo na ng mga nakapaligid sa Superstar at ng mga solid Noranians.

"Noranian din ako!", bulalas ni Mr. Abacan.

Nababasa niya ang mga pabor at mga kontrang komento ng mga tao tungkol sa mga litrato nila ng Superstar. Nakarating din daw sa kanya ang diumano'y reaksyon ng ilan sa TV5. Pero ang mas inisip raw niya ay kung ano ang naging reaksyon ni ate Guy sa isyu.

"Kanina lang magka-usap kami (ni ate Guy) sa telefono. Ang sabi niya sa akin, wala raw akong dapat ipag-alala kasi  "anak-anakan" ako ni kuya Germs kaya mahal din niya ako. 'Yung ginawa raw niya (pagpayag na isuot ang jacket at hawakan ang fan sign) ay bukal sa loob niya kasi hindi raw siya nakakalimot. At dahil sa sinabi niyang 'yon, Ramon, NAGBALIK ang pagka-NORANIAN ko! Noranian na uli ako FOREVER!"

Ano ba ang naging atmosphere sa opisina niya nang dumalaw ang Superstar?

"Nagkagulo ang buong 7th floor! Kahit 'yung mga tao sa ibang department, nagsipasukan sa opisina ko at gustong magpa-picture. Pati 'yung guard!"

Ano naman ang reaksyon niya mismo nang makita niya si Ms. Nora Aunor?

"Matatawa ka.", pasintabi ni kuya Joey. "...kasi NAGTITILI ako! Sabi ko, 'ate Guuuyyyyy!' tapos niyakap ko siya!"

Bakit ganuon ang reaksyon niya? Hindi ba niya naisip na network executive siya?

"Ramon, kapag nasa harapan mo na si ate Guy at wala kang ginawa, ang bobo mo na. Seryoso, siya lang ang nakita kong artista na ganun...'yung para siyang TAONG MAY MAGNET. Hindi pwedeng hindi mo siya pansinin. Marami akong nakikitang malalaking artista pero hindi ako nagpapalitrato. Pero kay ate Guy, hindi pwedeng HINDI."

Paano 'yung mga negatibong reaksyon sa dalawang litrato nila ni ate Guy?

"Kasi naman, 'yung isa du'n, kinuha sa facebook account ko ng kung sino na hindi ko kilala. Walang paalam. At ang mas nakakainis pa, hindi talaga maganda yung kuhang 'yon kasi nga parang napipilitan lang si ate Guy. Pero para mas maintindihan ng mga tao na wala kaming malisya at talagang tuwang-tuwa lang kami na dumalaw si ate Guy, sige Ramon, kunin mo pa ang ibang mga pictures sa facebook account ko at i-publish mo with my permission para makita nila na masaya lang kami sa opisina."

Ilang beses ko tinanong uli si Mr. Abacan kung seryoso siya sa permission na i-publish ang iba pa nilang pictures ng Superstar at ang sagot niya "Oo. Go!"

Kaya heto pa ang ilan lang sa mga kuha ng Superstar sa opisina ni Mr. Jose Mari Abacan ng GMA 7:

by Joey over Twitter. 'Natutuwa ako, dumalaw sa amin ang Superstar, I just had to let my friends
and followers know!' he exclaimed.

Atty. Annette Gozon-Abrogar, Joey Abacan, German Moreno, Nora Aunor and Tracy Garcia also of GMA Films. "Lahat kami  masaya at nagpapasalamat ako kay ate Guy sa suporta niya, hindi lang sa mga bagong artista kundi sa buong industriya." adds Joey.


Marami pang ibang litrato pero hindi ko na in-upload. Makikita naman na bukod-tangi sa iisang kuha na hindi maayos, lahat naman ng larawan ni Ms. Aunor sa opisina ni Mr. Abacan ay masaya ang Superstar. 

May dagdag na mensahe pa ba siya lalo na sa mga Noranians na hindi nakakakilala sa kanya ng personal at maaaring magtampo sa kanya o sa GMA 7?

"Before, I appreciated Nora Aunor from afar. Alam ko ang mga kanta niya. Napanood ko ang mga pelikula niya. Multi-media star siya. Lahat-lahat siya na. And my God, ilang dekada na, nandito pa rin siya. Pero ngayon, nang tawagin niya akong kaibigan, she won not just my appreciation but my heart. Mahal ko na talaga si Nora, ang nag-iisang Superstar forever."


At sa iba pang supporters ni Ms. Nora Aunor sa loob ng industriya bukod sa mga fans, ano ang masasabi niya?


"It is worth supporting Nora Aunor. Mabuti siyang tao."



May pahabol na kwento si Mr. Abacan bago naputol ang usapan namin.

"Sa mall show kanina, I was told kinausap ni Kuya Germs ang mga bata (young stars of Tween Academy
Class of 2012). Sabi niya 'pag sumikat kayo, gayahin nyo ang Superstar. Hindi namimili. Lahat ng fans pinagbibigyan, maliit man o malaki. Ganyan n'yo ipakita ang pagpapasalamat n'yo sa suportang ibinigay sa inyo ng isang Nora Aunor."






































































Note: As a media professional myself who is introducing pop media strategy in the business, I hope this is one 'intrigue' that quickly ends in a positive, win-win note. In the midst of the oft-bitter fought, sadly polarizing 'network war', I'm sure even the top executives GMA 7 agree that the management of TV 5 has truly proven to be a wise and serious player by helping bring back a most essential star that is Nora Aunor, not only for the celebrity status that she brings but more so for that unique gift of connecting, inspiring and hopefully uniting the Filipino people beyond the borders of the islands,  dialects and other channels that separate and hinder our growth as a nation.


In our humble view, that could be the genuine Value of  an essential Superstar.
